寫作文法：but、however等常用轉折詞嘅用法大解析

係寫英文作文嘅時候，我哋常常需要比較唔同嘅事物或觀點，需要用到一 d 轉折詞 Transition 黎連結前後所討論嘅對象。最常用轉折詞的有 but、although、however，看似佢哋嘅意思差唔多，其實係用法上都各有唔同架！一齊黎睇睇英文轉折詞的正確用法啦！

1. But 但是，不過

But 可以是 conjunction，adverb，preposition，用來連結2個意義相反的單字或者相同語法類型的句子。如果後面內容較長的話，需要加逗號。

The room was small but adequate.
房間雖小但夠用。

She listens, but she never joins in.
她只是聽，但從來不發表意見。

2. However 可是

However 是用來表示前後意義相反的 adverb，連結兩個句子，可以放在句首或句中。

We thought the figures were correct. However, we have now discovered some errors.
我們原以為這些數據正確。不過我們現在發現了一些錯誤。

3. Although 雖然，不過

Although 或者 though 可以用來表示對比轉折，可以放在句首或句中。和 but 不一樣的是子句的次序不可調換。

Although the team lost, they played with tremendous spirit.
盡管輸了，但隊員表現得極為勇猛。

There is no cure for the disease, although drugs can slow down its rate of development.
這種病沒法治，盡管藥物可以延緩病情的發展。

4. Nevertheless 然而

Nevertheless 或 nonetheless 是「然而」的意思，主要用在句首。與 However 的分別是表達較強烈和正式。

Nevertheless, people have a misunderstanding of how animals treat one another.
然而，人們對於動物之間的相處方式有著錯誤的看法。

5. In contrast 相反

它是一個短語，和 with 或 to 搭配放在句首。

In contrast, the lives of girls in well-to-do families were often very sheltered.
相比之下，富裕家庭的女孩子們通常都過著養尊處優的生活。
