DSE Paper 1, 2: 搞唔清Try to do同Try doing個分別？幫你重溫4個常見嘅動詞後面要加to定ing啦！

相信大家都知道有啲英文動詞後面要加 to ，有啲就要加 ing，例如 enjoy doing, hope to。而今日就想同大家講下 Try, Mean, Remember 同 Stop 後面加 to/ing 嘅分別。

可能大家以前學 grammar 嗰陣都有聽過吓，但你又記唔記得呢？等我哋同大家複習吓啦！

1. Try to do vs Try doing

Try to do 係指「努力去完成一件很困難嘅事」，如果 Try to do 用於過去式句子時，就代表嘗試咗但未能成功。

而 Try doing 係指「去做一件冇做過，但可以係困難/唔困難嘅事，並且未知結果會點」。

Try to do

Even though he knows that it is a tough situation, he tries to overcome it.
縱使他知道這是一個艱難的時期，他仍努力去嘗試克服。

She tried to break the record of the 100m race, but ended up winning the first runner-up.
她嘗試打破100米賽跑的紀錄，可惜未能成功，最終奪取了第二名。

Try doing

Try calling me if I do not reply to your message.
如果我沒有回覆你的訊息，你可以試試打給我。

2. Mean to do vs Mean doing

Mean to 係指「故意/注定要」。

而 Mean doing 係指「意味著」。

Mean to do

I didn’t mean to offend you. I’m sorry if I have said something that hurt your feeling.
我沒有要故意冒犯你的意思，如果我說了一些傷害你的話，請容許我道歉。

Mean doing

Working in a rural area means taking me 3 hours for traveling.
在農村工作意味著我需要預留三個小時到達工作的地方。

3. Remember to do vs Remember doing

Remember to do 係指「記得要做未完成嘅事」。

而 Remember doing 係指「因為記得而已經完成咗某件事」。

Remember to do

Remember to hand in your assignment before this week’s Friday, or else you will get a mark deduction.
記得要在今個星期五前遞交作業，否則你會被扣分。

Remember doing

It’s raining cats and dogs this morning. Fortunately, I remembered bringing my umbrella so I did not get wet.
今天早上下了滂沱大雨，幸好我記得要帶雨傘，因此沒有被淋濕。

4. Stop to do vs Stop doing

Stop to do 係指「停止做緊嘅事，去做另一件事」

而 Stop doing 係指「唔再做某件事」。

Stop to do

I have to stop to work on this report, or else I will be late for the appointment.
我必須暫停繼續寫報告，否則我便會遲到。

Stop doing

The advertisement encourages people to stop smoking for their own and their family.
這廣告鼓勵人們為了自己和家人的著想去戒煙。
